TRACEGROW PRESENTS
REDO-M®
Circular Battery-grade Manganese for the EU Battery Age
We’re seeking strategic partners to validate REDO-M® in your production processes and utilise it at industrial scale.
Europe’s Battery Industry Has a Manganese Problem
Europe’s battery industry depends almost entirely on imported battery-grade manganese.
This is particularly critical for applications using manganese-rich chemistries in automotive and stationary energy storage
— even though growing recyclable resources already exist within the region.
Alkaline battery waste, already collected across Europe, represents a readily available source of manganese that remains largely untapped.
Tracegrow’s patented RETRACER® process transforms recycled materials into high-purity, battery-grade manganese sulphate.
- Nearly 100 % of Europe’s battery-grade manganese is imported
- Demand continues to grow across NMC and LMO chemistries
- EU Battery Regulation focuses on traceability, recycling targets, and CO₂-footprint limits across the value chain
- Circular, low-carbon solutions are urgently needed
REDO-M provides a proven, scalable path toward Europe’s circular manganese supply — ready to verify and scale with strategic partners.

EUROPE HAS THE FEEDSTOCK.
IT'S UNDERUTILIZED.
Each year, around 88 000 tonnes of alkaline batteries are collected across Europe — less than 50 % of the approximately 190 000 tonnes sold annually. As new EU collection targets take effect, collected alkaline volumes are expected to rise sharply — unlocking a much larger supply of recyclable raw materials for circular production.
Manganese makes up approximately 23 % of this battery mass, yet most of it is not processed at all — or is landfilled.
The EU Battery Regulation (Chapter VIII – Waste Management), entering into force in August 2025, sets ambitious collection targets:
- Collection rates must reach 73% by 2030 (up from 46% today)
- This will increase available feedstock to 178 000 tonnes annually
- With 23% manganese content, this represents tens of thousands of tonnes of potential manganese feedstock
- Thousands of tonnes of alkaline batteries are already stored across Europe, representing a near-term recoverable feedstock
Alkaline battery feedstock exists now — and its availability is growing every year under the new EU collection mandates.
Tracegrow’s RETRACER® process transforms EU feedstock into battery-grade manganese sulphate, helping meet the EU Critical Raw Materials Act target of 25 % recycled content by 2030.
By connecting Europe’s under-utilised waste stream with its battery industry’s material needs, REDO-M provides a direct, scalable path toward circular manganese supply.
From Concept to Validated Battery-Grade Purity
Years of R&D have taken Tracegrow’s technology from pilot scale to verified industrial readiness.
Independent validations by partners such as the the University of Oulu confirms that REDO-M reaches the high purity needed for advanced battery applications.
The RETRACER process can achieve over 90 % of manganese recovery, using recycled European materials, while operating with a low carbon footprint.
REDO-M represents the next evolution of Tracegrow’s circular recovery platform — proven, patented, and ready to scale for industrial validation.
Two patents for manganese recovery are pending, placing Tracegrow at the forefront of Europe’s circular battery materials industry.
This process isn't just technically proven, it's commercially viable.
Since 2019, Tracegrow has operated an
ISO-certified
production facility serving the agricultural sector, demonstrating reliable performance at industrial scale
as an
intermediate step toward battery-grade manganese production.
