REDO-M® at ICBR 2026: Closing Europe’s manganese loop
Tracegrow will present REDO-M® at ICBR 2026 in Berlin, demonstrating how manganese recovered from European alkaline battery waste can be purified into battery-grade manganese sulphate.

T racegrow will take part in ICBR 2026, the 31st International Congress for Battery Recycling, held in Berlin on 9–11 September.
Tracegrow CEO Jaakko Nauha will present “From alkaline waste to battery-grade manganese: closing Europe’s supply loop”, highlighting the company’s development of a European pathway from recycled alkaline battery material to high-purity manganese sulphate for battery applications.
Using its proprietary RETRACER® process, Tracegrow recovers and purifies manganese from recycled alkaline batteries and other European material streams. The technology is already used commercially to recover valuable materials for agriculture. With REDO-M®, Tracegrow is extending the same circular-economy platform into battery materials.
From recycled batteries back into the battery value chain
REDO-M® is Tracegrow’s circular battery-grade manganese solution, produced from EU-sourced recycled feedstocks. Development work with the University of Oulu has demonstrated a pathway to manganese sulphate monohydrate at battery-grade purity. The next step is industrial validation and scaling together with partners across the battery value chain.
“Europe already has valuable manganese circulating in its waste streams. The challenge is recovering it at the quality required for new battery materials,” says Jaakko Nauha, CEO of Tracegrow. “ICBR brings together exactly the companies needed to turn that opportunity into a functioning European supply chain.”
Closing the manganese loop in Europe
Manganese is an important raw material for several current and emerging battery chemistries. At the same time, Europe remains highly dependent on imported manganese and refined manganese products.
Recovering manganese from existing European material streams creates an opportunity to reduce that dependency while keeping valuable materials in circulation.
Tracegrow is now looking to work with cathode and battery-material producers, recyclers and other industrial partners to validate REDO-M® in production environments and develop the pathway towards commercial-scale production.
